Oscar Silk of Exeter was crowned Summer Showdown champion on Friday evening as he defeated Dan Arthur 4-0 in the final.

Silk emerged from the group stages as one of four players with a 100% record and dropped just one leg in the knockout rounds en route to victory.

The former Southern Singles finalist was one of several contenders for the championship in a field thinned by the absence of recent event winners Musa Ali, Dan Outwin and Morgan Shillito.

One possible favourite, Hallam’s Filip Brom, departed in the group stages, as Warwick’s Sam Evans and Birmingham’s Aaron Raguro advanced in his place.

Arthur meanwhile progressed with three wins and only one defeat in the group stages, before going on to oust Gloucestershire’s Patrick Loveard, Raguro and Manchester’s Tom Cockman to reach the final.

But unfortunately for the debutant, he proved no match for Silk, who had an average of 81 and knocked in four 140s to take the title.

Also victorious was Manchester’s Isobel Lee, who captured the women’s title, adding a Summer Showdown crown to her Northern Singles and Big Weekender wins.

She defeated Alisa Brown of Oxford 3-2 in a close final, having got the better of UCFB’s Wave Cartlidge in the semi-final.

The plate competition was captured by Manchester’s Henry Casement, who defeated Kyle Mandell in the final.

The blind pairs was however won by Tom Cockman and Wave Cartlidge, who beat Sam Evans and Keelan Hills 3-2 in the final.

On the day’s competitions, UDUK President Kyle Mandell said: “Huge congratulations to our Summer Showdown champions, particularly Oscar Silk, who put in a superb performance in the final to defeat Dan.”

“It was great to welcome over 30 players to Bradmoor Farm for our season closer, and our thanks must go to Adam, Steve and the venue staff for what was an excellent playing setup.”

The Summer Showdown brings an end to the UDUK league and tournament season, with play set to resume in September and October.
